Historical context: "Und Ihr?" – "And you?" In 1917 Alfred Roller, co-founder of the Vienna Secession and Gustav Mahler's stage designer at the Vienna Court Opera, created this poster for Austria-Hungary's seventh war loan. A soldier in a steel helmet crawls across the battlefield, grenade in hand, and turns to ask the civilians at home what they are doing for the war. Subscriptions were taken by the k.k. priv. Österreichische Credit-Anstalt in Vienna.
