Historical context: Drawn by Gino Boccasile, Italy's best-known wartime illustrator, for the Italian Social Republic in 1943–45. As Allied bombing devastated Italian cities, this poster caricatures Churchill and Roosevelt as pistol-wielding gangsters under a pirate flag, towering over the ruins and the dead. Its slogan, "Su loro ricade la colpa!" ("On them rests the blame!"), sought to turn civilian anger away from the regime and toward the Allies.
