Historical context: Fritz Erler's 1917 poster for Germany's sixth war loan shows a steel-helmeted soldier with gas mask and grenades staring out from the trenches through barbed wire. The slogan means "Help us win! Subscribe to the war loan." It became one of the most reproduced German images of the First World War and fixed the Stahlhelm as the symbol of the front-line soldier.
Translation: "Help us win! Subscribe to the war loan"
